What this lesson covers
This lesson explains how the System Design Simplified course is organised and how to use the platform. The course has three main sections. Machine coding is aimed at engineers with more than four years of experience and covers concurrent request handling, request ordering, latency, and design patterns such as generics and thread executors, with a rate limiter chapter planned. The high level design section looks at problems large distributed systems face, including request routing, state management, authentication and API contracts, and is described as suited to SDE 1 to 3 engineers. The fundamentals section explains the underlying concepts in depth, such as eventual consistency, caching policies and algorithms, TCP versus UDP, and video streaming with WebRTC. A bonus section holds recordings of the live Zoom sessions, which cover topics like DNS and CDNs. The video then walks through the platform features: rating videos, an about section, a discussions tab, auto-saved personal notes on each lesson, a resources section, timestamps, subtitles, retryable quizzes with explanations, dark mode and search.
